On September 30, 2023, 46-year-old Teressa Gandy Ferguson was tragically killed in a road rage incident in North Austin, Texas. While driving home from work along Interstate 35, Ferguson was involved in a minor collision near the Rundberg Lane and Anderson Lane exits. She pulled over to exchange information with the other driver, as she had informed a friend during a phone call. Tragically, during this exchange, she was shot and killed.
The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to an automated emergency call triggered by Ferguson's iPhone, indicating a possible accident. Upon arrival, officers found Ferguson unresponsive in her vehicle with a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a silver Infiniti at the scene, which quickly fled after the shooting.
Following an investigation, APD identified 28-year-old Justin Justice as the suspect. Surveillance footage and witness accounts linked Justice's vehicle to the crime scene. On October 31, 2023, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Justice in Round Rock, Texas, after he attempted to flee on foot. A search of his vehicle revealed a firearm in the glove box, and his cellphone contained a screenshot of a news article about Ferguson's death.
Justice, a registered sex offender with a history of arrests, was charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Travis County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He also faces charges of evading arrest, failure to comply with the sex offender registry, and felony drug possession. Ferguson's family expressed relief at the arrest but emphasized that their pursuit of justice continues until a conviction and appropriate sentencing are secured.
