Christian Rangel, a 30-year-old Hispanic man from Richmond, Texas, was a beloved son, brother, and boyfriend. He is survived by his parents, Reynaldo and Guillermina Rangel, his brothers, Luis and Alexis, his niece, Dillyn, and his girlfriend, Mia Roldan, along with a large extended family and many friends. His life was violently cut short in the spring of 2024.
On the night of Saturday, March 30, 2024, a 21st birthday party was being held in Jacinto City, a community in Harris County.
The celebration turned tragic when gunfire suddenly erupted. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a preliminary investigation suggested the shooting stemmed from what was likely a "petty verbal altercation." Christian and another man, 22-year-old Candelario Gonzalez Jr., were both struck by the gunfire.
A neighbor who heard the violence unfold described hearing one initial "boom," which was immediately followed by a rapid succession of several more shots. She told reporters that after the gunfire stopped, she heard one car speed away from the scene, followed shortly after by a second vehicle also leaving very quickly. Both Christian and Candelario were transported to a local hospital, but they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office launched a homicide investigation into the double murder. Sergeant Michael Ritchie commented on the tragic nature of the crime, stating, "Unfortunately, two young men lost their lives at a birthday party." At the time, it was not publicly known whether Christian and Candelario had been guests at the party or if they had been involved in the preceding argument. Investigators also noted there was a possibility of a third victim who was shot, but that part of the investigation was still developing.
As of late March 2024, no arrests had been made in the case. The investigation into the deaths of Christian Rangel and Candelario Gonzalez Jr. remains ongoing, and the case is unsolved.
