On December 24, 2023, Marlon Jones, aged 50, was fatally shot outside his apartment complex near 28th Street and Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, California. The incident occurred just after midnight as Jones returned home with groceries. His wife, Tanya Mixon, joined him in their Lexus when an unknown individual approached from behind as Jones was checking the vehicle identification number for insurance purposes.
