Jalon 'Bo' Brooks, a 21-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life to gun violence on June 6, 2024, in the Westwood area of Memphis, Tennessee. Known for his outgoing and outspoken nature, Brooks was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and a father to four children. He was an aspiring rapper, a mechanic, and enjoyed cooking. During his school years, he was active in track and football.
On that fatal day, another man, 24-year-old Melvin Tabor, was also shot and killed in the same incident.
The Memphis Police Department promptly launched an investigation into the double homicide. The community was deeply affected by the loss of both young men, expressing their grief through online tributes and candlelight vigils.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Memphis Police Department, no arrests had been reported in connection with the deaths of Jalon Brooks and Melvin Tabor as of late December 2024. The case remains an open investigation, and law enforcement continues to seek information from the public that could lead to the identification and apprehension of any suspects involved.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family of Jalon Brooks held memorial services to honor his life. A wake was held on June 21, 2024, followed by a funeral service the next day at New Salem Baptist Church. He was laid to rest at New Park Cemetery on Horn Lake Road. His untimely death has left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends, who remember him for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him.
