On November 2, 2017, 28-year-old Sauvignon Watkins was shot and killed inside a Starbucks located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. The shooting, which took place on the 4700 block of North Broadway, also wounded two others, including a 12-year-old boy. Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports indicated that Watkins was found in possession of a firearm and narcotics during the incident, which highlighted some of the challenges related to crime in the area.
