Do you know who murdered Alanna? Alana Bailey, a 30-year-old woman, was found dead on June 16, 1974, in a wooded area off the side of Nuuanu Pali Drive in Honolulu, Hawaii. The place where she was discovered was removed from the road, tucked into thick growth, and the reports summarized by investigators say she had been assaulted and strangled. 
As detectives tried to stitch together her last known hours, they learned that friends also knew her by another name: “Terry Rochan.”
That detail became part of the trail investigators followed, because it hinted at a parallel social circle and a life that might not have been immediately visible from her legal identity alone. 
One of the few concrete anchors in the public record is her vehicle. Police reported that Bailey’s car was later located still parked in the Chinatown area, a blunt clue that raised unsettling questions: whether Chinatown was where her night began, where it ended, or simply where her car was left behind to delay discovery and muddy the timeline. From there, the story seems to turn sharply upslope—away from the bright streets and into the wind-bent trees along the Pali—suggesting movement, concealment, and a deliberate effort to separate the victim from the place she was last traceable. 
In the decades since, the case has been carried forward as an unsolved homicide under the Honolulu Police Department’s cold case work. In the publicly posted case summary, no suspect is named and no arrest is described, and the department’s appeal focuses instead on finding someone—anyone—who can place Bailey, or the name “Terry Rochan,” into a clearer sequence of contacts, locations, and moments that might finally point to the person responsible.
