On a spring evening in Buffalo, New York, 14-year-old Jazzmine Fomby was caught in a burst of gunfire that ended her life. The fatal shooting occurred on May 4, 2024, near Jefferson Avenue on Alexander Place, where a large house party with at least 100 young people had been taking place. Disputes that began inside the party reportedly spilled out into the street, escalating into physical altercations.
Sometime after police had initially been called to break up the sizable gathering,
gunfire erupted in a nearby parking lot. Investigators later found shell casings on Alexander Place, indicating the position of the shooter or shooters. In the aftermath, six teenagers were found to have been shot. Jazzmine was rushed to Oishei Children's Hospital, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The other five victims, who were between the ages of 15 and 16, sustained injuries that ranged from minor to critical and were treated at local hospitals. Police believe at least three handguns were present at the party.
As of now, the person or persons responsible for the death of Jazzmine Fomby remain at large. The Buffalo Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects and no arrests have been made in the case. Detectives have canvassed the area for evidence and have been appealing to the many witnesses who were at the party to come forward with any information.
In an effort to generate leads, Crime Stoppers of Western New York is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting. The victim's family, along with police, have made public pleas for anyone with knowledge of the incident to break the silence and help bring a measure of justice for the young girl whose life was cut short. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing as a community mourns the violent loss of a teenager.
