In the late afternoon of August 7, 2018, a dispute that began inside a Kroger grocery store in Decatur, a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area, escalated into a fatal shooting in the parking lot, claiming the life of 25-year-old Jeremiah Flemister. The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, unfolded at the Kroger located at 3479 Memorial Drive.
According to law enforcement, an argument broke out between Flemister and another man, later identified as 27-year-old Dra James. The disagreement, which may have been related to gang affiliations, moved from inside the store to the parking lot. Witnesses reported that after being pistol-whipped, Flemister dared James to shoot him. In response, James allegedly shot Flemister in the chest. After being shot, Flemister managed to stumble into a nearby nail salon to seek help. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two days after the shooting, on August 9, 2018, members of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit, along with a K-9 unit and SWAT team, located and arrested Dra James at a residence in Lithonia. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was charged with felony murder.
