A night of celebration turned into a scene of violence at an Atlanta motorcycle club, leaving one man dead and four others wounded. Fernando Wingfield, a 44-year-old male from College Park, was killed on June 26, 2016, following a shootout at the Strikers Motorcycle Club on Moreland Avenue. The club was hosting a gathering to celebrate its 30th anniversary, with hundreds of people in attendance.
According to reports, an argument broke out at the club at approximately 3:30 a.m., which
escalated to gunfire. Wingfield, a frequent patron of the club who was described as loving to bike, was caught in the violence. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The shooting also left four other people injured; one man was taken into surgery with multiple gunshot wounds, and two women were listed in stable condition. The condition of the fifth victim was not released.
The family of Fernando Wingfield, already familiar with the pain of gun violence after his son was killed in a shooting years prior, was left searching for answers. A cousin of Wingfield's acknowledged hearing that a confrontation preceded the shooting but lamented that the full truth of what transpired may never be known. In the years following the incident, the case was listed among Atlanta's unsolved homicides from 2016. Law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the shooting. The Atlanta Police Department continues to list the death of Fernando Wingfield as a cold case.
