In the early morning hours of October 1, 2023, the life of 53-year-old Amy Jean Uff was tragically cut short in her Marion Station, Maryland home. Police were called to a residence on Hudson Corner Road shortly before 3 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, troopers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack and officers from the Crisfield Police Department witnessed a man exiting the house.
That man, identified as 42-year-old Morris Edward Cotton III, also of
Marion Station, was immediately taken into custody. Once inside the residence, law enforcement discovered Amy Jean Uff, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency medical services personnel pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Morris Edward Cotton III was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related charges. He was transported to the Somerset County Detention Center to await a bond hearing. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit has taken the lead on the ongoing investigation into Amy's death.
Amy Jean Uff was born on June 22, 1970, in Salisbury, Maryland, and spent her early years in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, before returning to the Eastern Shore in the 1980s. Described as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend, her unexpected death left her family and community in mourning. She is survived by her daughter, father, sisters, and grandsons, among other relatives and friends.
