On October 29, 2001, William "Billy" Stanton was murdered in Bunnell, Florida, while waiting in his vehicle at a railroad crossing on Elm Avenue. Two unidentified individuals approached the vehicle from behind and opened fire, killing Stanton. A passenger in the car was unharmed during the attack. The suspects were armed with both a .380 and a .45 caliber firearm, and their identities remain unknown.
