On March 25, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in North Portland's University Park area, resulting in the deaths of three young men, including 19-year-old Babu Daudi. Daudi, along with 17-year-old Eskender Tamra and 20-year-old Patrick Johnson, were driving on Foss Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. when they were ambushed by three other individuals who fired multiple gunshots at their vehicle.
Babu Daudi, who was a senior at Roosevelt High School and had previously attended Franklin High
School, was one of the victims fatally shot in this incident. Eskender Tamra, a junior at Franklin High School, and Patrick Johnson also lost their lives in the shooting. The attack was particularly brutal, with the suspects chasing the victims' vehicle and continuing to shoot even as the victims attempted to drive away.
The shooting was witnessed by neighbors who heard dozens of gunshots and later found shell casings in their yards. The FBI, along with local authorities, has been actively seeking the public's help in identifying and apprehending the suspects. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murders.
