Ramiro Mendez, a 32-year-old father of two, was fatally shot outside his home in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago on January 21, 2023. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 3 a.m., when Mendez was waiting in the driveway of his house in the 5300 block of West Altgeld Street. He and his wife, Maria Zambrano, had just returned home from a family gathering, and Zambrano had gone inside to let out their dog while Mendez waited outside.
