Dwayne Avery Cook Jr., affectionately known as "Waynie," "Wayne Wayne," "Weezy," and "Big Fella," was born on December 4, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, to Felicia Pointer and Dwayne Avery Cook Sr. He was the eldest of five siblings. Dwayne accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior under the guidance of Pastor Charlie W. Shelton at the Word of God Life Changing Ministry C.O.G.I.C.
He attended George Henry Corliss High School and held various jobs, forming meaningful connections with many people throughout his career.
In 2017, Dwayne married Cassandra Lee, the love of his life. Their union was blessed with two children: a son, Avery Dwayne Cook, and a daughter, Armani Diane Cook. Known for his infectious laughter and constant jokes, Dwayne was the life of family gatherings. He often arrived with ingredients ready to barbecue or fry, and enjoyed engaging in spirited card games. A devoted husband and father, Dwayne was committed to providing for his family and ensuring their happiness.
Tragically, on April 7, 2024, at the age of 35, Dwayne was fatally shot in the Pullman neighborhood of Chicago. The incident involved a gunman emerging from an alley to fire upon three victims, resulting in Dwayne's death and injuries to two others. The assailant fled the scene in a truck. Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Dwayne Sr.; his grandfather, Leroy Edwards; his grandmother, Ozie Cook; and his nephew, Joseph Scott.
Dwayne's memory is cherished by his loving wife, Cassandra; their two children, Avery and Armani; his mother, Felicia Pointer (Jim Williams); three sisters, Donna Cook, Delicia Cook, and Diamond Cook; one brother, Darion Grisby; two nephews, Jo’Shawn and LaShawn; two nieces, Jaliyah and Alana; his grandmother, Diane Pointer; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. His warmth, humor, and dedication to family continue to be remembered by all who knew him.
