The incident occurred when Curtis was attempting to complete a transaction that escalated into a confrontation. During the attempted robbery, Curtis was shot and ultimately died from his injuries.
Nine months later, Devin Bartley, age 21, was arrested in connection to the shooting after police identified his DNA from a bullet fragment found at the scene. Bartley had claimed he was injured in a different incident, but evidence linked him to the crime.
