On June 29, 2024, Faye Porter, a 31-year-old mother of six children, was found deceased following a shooting in the 1500 block of Northwest 20th Avenue in Ocala, Florida. The Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to the scene at 10:38 p.m..
Faye Porter was described by her family as a "sweet, kindhearted" person. She was born in Clearwater but had lived in Ocala for most of her life.
At the time of her death, she was working to regain custody of her children, who were living with her mother-in-law, Vonsheila Floyd. Porter's children include five who lived with Floyd in Ocala, aged 10, 5, 3, and twins aged 6, and another child residing in Clearwater.
The investigation into Porter's death is ongoing, and as of the current date, no arrests have been made. The Ocala Police Department has increased the reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Initially, a $3,000 reward was offered, but it has been bumped up to $9,500 with the additional funding coming from the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers and the Florida Office of Attorney General. The community has been urged to come forward with any information that might help in solving the case. Despite the homicide, investigators have stated that there is no believed threat to the community.
