In the winter of 2023, the life of 21-year-old Dejon Helms was tragically cut short in Little Rock, Arkansas. On the evening of December 20th, Helms, along with 20-year-old Modesti Devon Allmon, was the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded outside a residence at 3424 W. 14th St., where the two were found with apparent gunshot wounds.
Little Rock police officers responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert, which detects gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Helms and Allmon gravely injured. Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of paramedics, both individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The Pulaski County Coroner was called and transported their bodies to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy.
The Little Rock Police Department's Major Crimes Division launched a homicide investigation into the double homicide. Detectives canvassed the area for potential witnesses and any available video surveillance that might shed light on the events leading to the shooting. Initially, authorities did not release information regarding a possible motive or any description of potential suspects.
In a significant development, on September 23, 2025, the Little Rock Police Department announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murders of Dejon Helms and Modesti Allmon. Mark Lamont Harris Jr., 20, of Little Rock, and 17-year-old Kevin Mitchell were taken into custody. Both individuals have been charged with two counts of Capital Murder. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing.
