In the early morning hours of January 13, 2023, police were called to the Fleur Lodge motel in Des Moines, Iowa, with a report of a man bleeding and in cardiac arrest. Inside one of the rooms, first responders discovered the body of 45-year-old Russell Allen McKeehan Jr., a White male, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

The investigation quickly focused on McKeehan's roommate, 50-year-old Surfun Boens. Police reports indicate that the two men had been living togeth ...
