On August 21, 2016, Deshawn McDonald, a 26-year-old local rapper known as D Mac Deluxx, was shot and killed while celebrating his birthday at a nightclub near the intersection of Interstate 17 and McDowell Road in Phoenix, Arizona. McDonald was with friends at the nightclub when, for unknown reasons, he decided to step outside. Shortly after, shots were heard in the parking lot.
