In a tragic turn of events, 19-year-old Unique Aguilera was killed in a shooting that also left a man critically injured in Mesa, Arizona. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of June 16, 2017, when police received a 911 call reporting a shooting near East Broadway and South Lindsey roads.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Unique Aguilera was found deceased inside the residence, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Another victim, 22-year-old Jesse Ibarra, was also found at the scene with life-threatening injuries. Ibarra was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Ibarra succumbed to his injuries and passed away on June 27, 2017. An autopsy later confirmed his cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led detectives to a suspect. Arturo Perez, 23, who was a former roommate of Ibarra, was detained for questioning and subsequently arrested in connection with the deadly shooting. Before he died, Ibarra was able to identify Perez as the shooter to the police. Investigators believe a love triangle may have been the motive behind the violent attack. Perez was later booked on a charge of second-degree murder.
