Summary based on 1 source
In the early morning hours of June 9, 2023, the life of 19-year-old Hispanic male Jaime 'Jimmy' Torres was tragically cut short in Sierra Vista, Arizona. A gunshot wound, sustained inside an apartment complex on Coronado Road, marked the beginning of the end for the aspiring mechanic. What transpired in the moments following the shooting remains a critical part of the investigation, but it is known that Torres was not immediately taken to an emergency room entrance.

Instead, a male and a female transported Torres to Canyon Vista Medical Center. In a state of apparent confusion or panic, they attempted to enter the hospital and its associated office buildings, unable to locate the proper emergency entrance. Torres was ultimately left outside a non-public door of the hospital. By the time he was discovered by hospital personnel, it was too late. Despite attempts to revive him, an emergency room physician pronounced him deceased.

The investigation into the death of Jaime Torres led the Sierra Vista Police Department to a suspect, 21-year-old Manuel Antonio Long, described as an acquaintance of the victim. Long was arrested on June 30 and booked into the Cochise County Jail. He faces multiple felony charges, including manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and influencing a witness. Authorities identified Long as the owner of the weapon used in the shooting.

As the legal process moves forward, the community remembers Jaime Torres for his kindness and his passion for cars. Inspired by his auto shop teachers in high school, he was on the verge of starting his career as a mechanic. His family remembers him as a loving and committed son and brother who found joy in his local Christian church, working on vehicles, and appreciating nature. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek at least one other individual believed to have been involved.
