In the small border town of Oldtown, Idaho, the afternoon of October 24, 2003, was shattered by sudden violence at the Stateline Bar. On that day, 84-year-old Leroy Glen Wiese, a male resident of nearby Newport, Washington, was fatally shot while at the establishment. The tranquility of the local watering hole was irrevocably broken when a gunman entered and opened fire, forever altering the lives of those present.
The shooting spree claimed the lives of three other individuals in
addition to Wiese. Among the victims were his former daughter-in-law, Tiki Danielle Wiese, age 41, of Oldtown, and two other Newport residents, Chester William Cavaliere and Henry Franklin Shumake, both 63. The attack was not a random act of violence; it stemmed from a personal dispute.
Law enforcement quickly identified the suspect as 53-year-old Ralph Reeves. Investigations revealed that Reeves was the ex-boyfriend of Tiki Wiese, and the shooting was apparently prompted by a conflict between the two. The motive appeared to be rooted in this past relationship, which tragically escalated to a quadruple homicide. One witness who was present during the horrifying event recounted the sudden eruption of gunfire, with the assailant using a semiautomatic pistol.
Following the deadly assault, Reeves fled the scene, sparking a search by authorities in both Idaho and Washington. Later that same day, sheriff's deputies from Pend Oreille and Bonner counties located his vehicle. As they approached, Ralph Reeves took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, bringing a grim end to the manhunt. His suicide closed the case, as he was the sole suspect in the tragic deaths of Leroy Glen Wiese and the three other victims.
