On March 18, 2016, 60-year-old David Alma Giles of St. Anthony, Idaho, died during an altercation with a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy near the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) in Idaho Falls. Earlier that morning, the deputy responded to a 911 call regarding a medical issue along U.S. Highway 20 and encountered Giles. The deputy transported Giles to EIRMC for medical assistance.
