On May 3, 2018, 14-year-old Tyler Talmage, a Caucasian male, was found deceased in his Grand Forks, North Dakota, home alongside his younger siblings, 10-year-old Aiden and 6-year-old Arianna, and their 35-year-old mother, Astra Volk. The tragic discovery was made after officials from the younger children's elementary school requested a welfare check at the residence. Responding officers found all four family members had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
