In the spring of 1902, a tense and ultimately tragic event unfolded in Colbert County, Alabama, leading to the death of Deputy Sheriff Bob Wallace and several of his colleagues. The incident began when Sheriff Charles Gassaway, accompanied by his deputies, attempted to serve a warrant on a local man for the offense of obtaining goods under false pretenses.
