On April 6, 1902, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, a tragic incident unfolded involving Deputy Sheriff Bob Wallace. Sheriff Charles Gassaway, accompanied by his brother Deputy William Gassaway and other deputies, including Bob Wallace, attempted to arrest Will Reynolds, an African American railroad worker, on charges of obtaining goods under false pretenses.
