In the quiet town of Wetumpka, Alabama, the life of 19-year-old D'Osha Jackson, a Black female, was tragically cut short on the evening of March 19, 2016. A drive-by shooting shattered the peace, resulting in the deaths of Jackson and 48-year-old Daryl Hunt. The violent outburst also left two other individuals, Roderick Jones and Jacoreian Jennings, with critical injuries.
The senseless act of violence sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden
and profound loss of a young woman just beginning her adult life. Her funeral service was held at the First United Methodist Church in Wetumpka, where those who knew her gathered to remember a life taken too soon. She was survived by her mother, Ananeshia Hunt, as well as two brothers and three sisters.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Wetumpka Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to a suspect. Authorities arrested Marcus Edwards in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of D'Osha Jackson and Daryl Hunt, in addition to two counts of first-degree assault for the injuries sustained by the other two victims. Law enforcement officials indicated that they believed Edwards was the sole person responsible for the shooting. The swift arrest brought a small measure of solace to a community grappling with the tragedy.
