In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 6, 2013, the sound of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet at the intersection of 53rd and E Streets in Southeast Washington, D.C. Responding to the alert at approximately 2:14 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers discovered the body of 38-year-old Christopher McKay Ballard, a male resident of Southeast D.C., lying in the street. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
