On September 15, 2014, 59-year-old Stephen H. Hager of Eagle River, Alaska, suffered a fatal gunshot wound near his family's cabin in the Bulchitna Lake area, south of Skwentna. According to reports, Hager was outside the cabin when a firearm discharged inside the residence, resulting in his death.
