In the small community of West Blocton, Alabama, a horrific tragedy unfolded on the evening of July 18, 2024, claiming the life of 2-year-old Kynli Grace Kendrick, a young girl with a bright smile and beautiful curly hair. That day, Kynli, along with her mother, 24-year-old Kelse Kendrick, her 6-year-old brother Kaleb, and her cousins, 8-year-old Colton Daniels and 6-year-old Haley Daniels, had been at a joyful birthday celebration for Colton.
Later that evening, after returning to their home on Greentree Drive, the unthinkable occurred. Authorities received a distressing 911 call from within the residence, reporting that a child had been shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered a scene of unimaginable horror. Kynli, her mother, her brother, and her two cousins had all been fatally shot in the head. The senseless act of violence cut short the lives of five innocent people, leaving a family and a community shattered.
The suspect in this devastating crime was identified as 32-year-old Brandon Allan Kendrick II, Kynli and Kaleb's father and Kelse's husband. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was subsequently charged with five counts of capital murder. The charges include four counts for the murder of a victim under the age of 14 and one count for the murder of two or more persons.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, it was revealed that the family had been living on the property of Brandon Kendrick's grandparents. His grandfather, a retired pastor, reportedly heard the gunshots and was able to subdue his grandson. Brandon Kendrick has since been indicted on the capital murder charges and has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. His legal team has indicated that he suffers from schizophrenia, and he has reportedly claimed that 'TV voices' told him to commit the murders. He is currently being held without bond while awaiting trial.
