Jermiera Ivory Fowler, a 31-year-old mother of two, was found dead on June 1, 2023, in the Roebuck area of Birmingham, Alabama. Her body showed signs of trauma, and it was later determined she had been fatally shot and her body set on fire. Fowler was reported missing after she was last seen the day before her body was discovered. Family members described her as a 'kind, loving, and generous person.'

The investigation into Fowler's death quickly led police to identify 25-year-old Demarchies Mincey as a suspect. On June 12, arrest warrants were issued for Mincey for murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with Fowler's death. He was apprehended on June 22 in Stonecrest, Georgia, by U.S. Marshals. At the time of his arrest, he was also facing charges in Georgia for cruelty to children, aggravated assault, and battery.
While investigating Jermiera Fowler's homicide, detectives uncovered evidence linking Mincey to another killing. He was also identified as a suspect in the death of 31-year-old Ariel Jones, whose body was found shot and burned in a vehicle on April 18. Following this development, a capital murder warrant was issued for Mincey in connection with Jones's death. He is awaiting extradition to Alabama to face the charges in both cases.
