Parents find their son stabbed to death
On April 25, 1989, 21-year-old Hispanic male Robert Puente III was discovered deceased in his San Antonio, Texas, apartment. The sequence of events leading to this tragic discovery began when the San Antonio Police Department contacted his father, Robert Puente Jr., inquiring about the whereabouts of a red 1988 Nissan pickup truck registered to his son. Authorities had found individuals dismantling the vehicle near Arsenal Street and South Main Avenue; these individuals fled upon the arrival of law enforcement. Concerned for his son's safety, Robert Puente Jr. and his wife proceeded to their son's residence located at 2355 Austin Highway. Upon arrival, they found the apartment filled with smoke from a fire that had been ignited in the fireplace. Navigating through the smoke, Robert Puente Jr. located his son lying on the bed and carried him outside, initially believing he had succumbed to smoke inhalation. However, once outside, it became evident that Robert Puente III had sustained multiple stab wounds and had been severely beaten. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that on the evening of his death, Robert Puente III had arrived at his apartment in his red Nissan pickup truck accompanied by another Hispanic male in the passenger seat. Additionally, witnesses observed three Hispanic females and three Hispanic males riding in the bed of the truck. The identities of these individuals remain unknown, and their connection to the crime has not been established. Despite efforts by the SAPD's Cold Case Squad, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. Authorities continue to seek information that could lead to a breakthrough in this decades-old case.
