Darrow Edward Dodson, a 29-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, was found dead on the evening of April 11, 2007. The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. at 9803 West Sam Houston Parkway South. A maintenance worker from a nearby apartment complex noticed smoke coming from a cream-colored Ford Explorer parked in an adjacent complex's lot. The worker alerted the Houston Fire Department, and upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered Dodson's body in the back of the vehicle.
The body was bound and wrapped in plastic, and it was determined that Dodson had sustained a fatal stab wound to the back before being placed inside the SUV.
The police investigation revealed that Dodson was last seen alive earlier that same morning. The homicide case was classified as open, and the identity of the suspects remains unknown. The circumstances of the crime, which involved arson and a likely attempt to dispose of evidence, suggested a level of premeditation. The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, along with the HFD Arson Unit, continued to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Dodson's death left his community in shock, as the violent nature of the crime raised concerns about safety and the increasing levels of crime in the area. Despite the efforts by the authorities to gather evidence, the case highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in solving homicides involving minimal witness cooperation or identifiable suspects. Dodson was later laid to rest at Rosehill Gardens in Harrison County, Texas.
