On July 17, 2007, Henry Tran, aged 54, was shot and killed in his liquor store on Homestead Road in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred during an attempted robbery. Tran, who had owned and operated the store for 16 years, was shot while trying to protect his business. During the struggle, a gold chain was ripped from the assailant, which was later found near Tran's body. Despite the evidence left behind, the suspect remained at large. Tran was well known in the community, having also owned a restaurant in Midtown Houston, and was respected for his leadership and advocacy in the Vietnamese-American community.
Tran and his wife arrived in the United States in 1975 as refugees from Vietnam. He worked hard to establish his businesses and focused on providing educational opportunities for his children—all of whom were pursuing higher education at the time of his death. His family, devastated by the loss, described Tran as a kind and gentle man, and they, along with the police, called for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
This tragic homicide remains unsolved, and authorities have urged the public to provide any information that could help identify the suspect, emphasizing the need for community assistance to achieve justice for Tran and his family.
