On November 2, 2007, Gerino Reyes, aged 46, was shot and killed outside his home in southeast Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. as Reyes was leaving for work. He was approached by four to five men, at least two of whom were armed. As he was getting into his truck, the men began beating him. Reyes honked the horn in an attempt to draw attention to the situation, prompting his wife, Maria Gonzalez, who was eight months pregnant at the time, to come to the door. One of the men pointed a gun at her, falsely identifying themselves as police, and instructed her to go back inside or she would be shot.
The assailants dragged Reyes into the street, where they shot him multiple times before fleeing in two vehicles, a red Ford Expedition and a dark-colored sedan. Reyes fell into a drainage ditch and died at the scene. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made. The Houston Police Department and Crime Stoppers have urged anyone with information to come forward to aid in solving the case. Reyes's family was left in shock, with his wife and children witnessing the tragic incident firsthand. His daughter described him as a caring father who always provided for his family
