Aldegunda Alvarez, aged 42, was tragically killed on March 7, 2008, in southwest Houston. The incident took place at approximately 11:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Candlewick Apartments, located on Hillcroft Street. Alvarez was sitting in a pickup truck with her boyfriend when an unidentified man approached and attempted to open the truck's door. Finding it locked, the suspect fired a .45 caliber pistol through the window, fatally striking Alvarez in the face. Her boyfriend, who was also in the vehicle, escaped unharmed.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting. He was described as a black male, approximately 25 years old, between 5'6" and 5'9" in height, and weighing around 150 pounds. Investigators were uncertain of the motive behind the shooting, but it was suggested that an attempted robbery might have been involved. This shooting happened just a block away and shortly after another fatal shooting at the nearby Crown Garden Apartments, though it remained unclear if the two incidents were related.
The Houston Police Department launched an investigation and later released a composite sketch of the suspect. Despite the efforts of the investigators, no conclusive motive or further suspects were identified in the case at that time. Any information regarding the shooting was encouraged to be reported to Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department Homicide Division as the investigation continued.
