Edgar Tapia, a 21-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, was fatally shot on November 1, 2014, as he walked back to his apartment with his family. The incident took place at the 16200 block of Imperial Valley Drive around 12:35 a.m. According to reports, Tapia, along with his wife and children, had just returned from visiting family members. As they were making their way through the apartment complex, they were confronted by an armed man.
Tapia, trying to protect his family, told his wife and children to run. Moments later, a gunshot was heard, and Tapia was found with a gunshot wound to his side. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
The Houston Police Department described the suspect as a Black male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a black hoodie and jeans. A second suspect, possibly acting as an accomplice, was described as a Black male approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. Both suspects were seen leaving the scene in a red two-door Honda. A composite sketch of one of the suspects was released to the public to assist in identifying those responsible for the attack.
Investigators believe there may have been a second individual involved, and the public has been urged to come forward with any information that could help in solving the case. Anyone with details was asked to contact either the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers to assist with the ongoing investigation.
