On the afternoon of May 19, 2016, Houston police officers responded to a call at the Oaks of Charleston Park Apartments, located at 16 Charleston Park in southwest Houston. Upon arrival around 2:15 p.m., they discovered Marcus Roosevelt Denhams, a 26-year-old African American male, lying unresponsive in the parking lot.
