Kewin Kaewprasit, a 20-year-old resident of Houston, was tragically killed during a carjacking on December 12, 2016. The incident took place at the Nottingham Village apartment complex, located off Kimberly Lane in the Memorial area of Houston. Kewin was in the parking lot of the apartment complex when he was approached by robbers who shot him just before 10 p.m. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Witnesses reported hearing three gunshots and saw a black vehicle speed away from the scene afterward. The vehicle stolen during the carjacking was identified as a black 2015 Nissan Altima with Texas license plates GSK-5233.
The tragic event raised concerns about the security measures at the Nottingham Village apartment complex, with questions about whether the security measures in place were adequate to prevent such violent crimes. The legal community, including firms specializing in security negligence cases, suggested that apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe, and they emphasized the responsibility of property owners to protect individuals on their premises from foreseeable harm. The incident has prompted an investigation into the adequacy of the security systems at the apartment complex, as well as calls for public assistance to help find those responsible for Kewin's death.
