On April 26, 2017, Melvin Davis, a 29-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Vineyard Townhomes at 9550 Deering Drive in southwest Houston. The incident occurred in broad daylight, around 11:40 a.m., when a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche pulled into a nearby parking space. An individual later identified as Rodrigo Santos exited the vehicle and opened fire on Davis, striking him multiple times in the head, chest, back, buttock, and arm. Davis was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Houston Police Department's investigation led them to identify and arrest Rodrigo Santos in connection with the shooting. Santos, 22 at the time, was charged with murder in September 2018 for his role in Davis's death. He was apprehended without incident and is also facing separate charges for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail without bond.
