On September 30, 2017, Ronald McGuire, 30, was shot and killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 13502 Northborough in Houston, Texas. According to police reports, McGuire suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, Calvin Mitchell, 42, was identified through surveillance footage and witness statements and has been charged with murder, though he remained at large at the time of the report.
The incident reportedly began with an altercation between McGuire and Mitchell at a convenience store nearby. According to police records, McGuire and Mitchell were involved in a brief fistfight before both individuals returned separately to the Sago Palms apartment complex. Surveillance footage indicates that Mitchell approached McGuire, pointing a pistol at him. McGuire attempted to swipe at the weapon before being shot multiple times, including possibly a fatal shot to the neck. After the shooting, Mitchell allegedly took an item from McGuire's pocket before fleeing the scene along with two other individuals.
Mitchell, who has a criminal history including drug-related offenses and unlawful weapon possession, reportedly visited an acquaintance after the shooting and stated that he acted in self-defense. Authorities have urged anyone with information about Mitchell’s whereabouts to contact Houston police or Crime Stoppers to assist in the investigation and bring him into custody.
