On June 16, 2014, Kenneth Matthews, age 50, was shot and killed in Southeast Memphis. The incident occurred just outside his home, and Matthews was reportedly attempting to protect his family during the attack. He managed to drive his vehicle a short distance away to keep his daughters safe, as they were asleep inside the house during the event. Despite his efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
