In the early morning hours of February 17, 2022, 20-year-old Naasire Johnson took an Uber from his family's home in West Philadelphia to the Brewerytown residence of his romantic partner, Kylen Pratt. Shortly after his arrival, Pratt, who was 23 at the time, shot Johnson in the neck, killing him. The motive, as later described by the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, was a hate crime; Pratt did not want anyone to know about his romantic involvement with Johnson.
