In the early morning hours of December 28, 2009, in the Wissinoming neighborhood of Philadelphia, a young life was tragically cut short. Andrew Bagwell, a 22-year-old African-American male, was fatally wounded in what police described as an ambush. The incident unfolded around 6 a.m. on the 6000 block of Keystone Street as Bagwell was leaving a home.
As he attempted to get into the driver's seat of his Ford minivan, an unknown gunman approached and fired several shots.
Bagwell was struck in the stomach and legs. A friend who had been asleep in the back of the minivan was awakened by the sound of the gunshots but did not see the assailant. This friend then drove Bagwell to St. Christopher's Hospital.
Despite the swift medical attention, Andrew Bagwell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the gunman escaped unidentified. The case has remained unsolved for over a decade, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly named.
