In a tragic turn of events, a 20-year-old man named Naasire Johnson was murdered in Philadelphia in a case that highlights a dark tale of a secret relationship and betrayal. Johnson had taken an Uber to the Brewerytown home of his romantic partner, Kylen Pratt, in the early morning hours of February 17, 2022. Shortly after his arrival, Pratt fatally shot him in the neck.

The crime took an even more gruesome turn as Pratt attempted to conceal his actions. He transported Johnson's body to a remote trail in Fairmount Park, where he then set the body on fire. The remains were discovered later that day by two individuals, but they were so badly burned that identification was only possible through a DNA analysis. This act of desecration added another layer of horror to an already brutal crime. The motive, as prosecutors would later reveal, was Pratt's desire to keep his sexual relationship with Johnson a secret.

The investigation into Johnson's death gained momentum thanks to an anonymous tip that pointed law enforcement in the direction of Kylen Pratt. Cell phone records proved to be a critical piece of evidence, placing Pratt with Johnson at the time of the murder and also at the location in Fairmount Park where the body was found. A search of Pratt's home uncovered more incriminating evidence. The carpet padding and hardwood flooring were soaked with Johnson's blood, and a significant portion of the carpet had been recently cleaned with bleach in an attempt to destroy evidence. Investigators also recovered the 9mm semi-automatic murder weapon.

Further analysis of Pratt's cell phone data revealed a chilling window into his mindset following the murder. He had conducted Google searches for news coverage of the discovery of Johnson's remains, as well as for disturbing phrases such as “traits of a psychopath,” “having sex with dead bodies,” and “killing in cold blood.” Kylen Pratt was arrested on June 21, 2022. On September 27, 2024, a Philadelphia jury convicted him of First-Degree Murder, Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of an Instrument of Crime. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
