On March 16, 2008, 11-year-old Jose Luis Garcia Bailey was tragically shot and killed in Long Beach, California. The incident occurred at approximately 9:47 p.m. in front of a residence on 2024 East 15th Street, across the street from where Jose lived. He was standing with three others when two unidentified male suspects approached on foot and opened fire. Jose was hit by the gunfire and was fatally injured.
