On April 30, 2008, Martel Peters, a 21-year-old, was shot and killed in San Francisco's Mission District. The incident took place in the 3000 block of Harrison Street. Martel was one of 19 homicide victims in the Mission that year, a grim reminder of the violence that plagued the neighborhood in 2008.
