On July 15, 1991, Booker T. Gilcrease, a 28-year-old resident of Akron, Ohio, was fatally shot after an altercation at the Mercedes Lounge, located on North Main Street. The incident occurred during the evening and followed an argument that escalated into violence. Gilcrease was pronounced dead at the scene, and the case has remained unsolved for over three decades.
