On May 9, 1992, Ronald Pohl, a 57-year-old avid hunter, was shot and killed while turkey hunting in the woods of Salem Township, Meigs County, Ohio. Pohl had traveled from the Dayton area with his son for a hunting trip in the western part of Meigs County. The two separated once they entered the woods, with plans to meet later in the day. At approximately 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., Pohl's son heard a gunshot in the distance, followed by three to four more shots about fifteen minutes later.
When Pohl failed to return by noon, his son began searching for him, but was unable to locate him, leading to a call for assistance from authorities.
A search party, including deputies, Ohio Division of Wildlife officers, and fire department personnel, eventually found Pohl's body about two hours later. He had been shot in the back with buckshot at close range. The Meigs County Sheriff's Office, along with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, has since been investigating the incident, but no suspect has been identified. The case remains unsolved, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward in an effort to bring justice to Pohl's family, who have been seeking answers for years.
