On May 16, 1994, Raymond Ogle and Arthur Works were both shot to death while working at J.R. Motor Sales, a car dealership on West Third Street in Dayton, Ohio. Raymond Ogle was formerly a police officer in Indiana before transitioning to manage the car lot in Dayton, and Arthur Works was a father of six and a church deacon. The car dealership where they worked became a crime scene that evening, with the two men shot after business hours, leading investigators to believe that Raymond may have been specifically targeted while Arthur, who usually had left by that time, was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Witnesses reported that Raymond had brought this woman to a racetrack in Lebanon, and she was also said to be seeing a major Dayton-area drug dealer. Ten days before the murders, Raymond had been involved in a fight, allegedly over a dispute involving the same woman, raising suspicions that the attack could have been linked to this situation. However, despite these clues, authorities have not been able to conclusively tie anyone to the crime.
There were no signs of robbery during the incident, leading detectives to conclude that personal motives might have been at play.
