There was a belief that Ivory may have been targeted, and the suspect entered the building, shooting Ivory multiple times before fleeing the scene.
At the time of his death, Steven Ivory had gone to meet a business partner to split proceeds from a recent job. The partner told police that a gunman entered the building and fired at Ivory, but did not shoot at anyone else present. Despite witness statements, there have been no arrests made in connection to the homicide, and the case remains unsolved to this day.
Ivory's family has struggled with the emotional toll of his death, particularly because the case has not been solved. His mother, Mary Ivory, described the emotional pain as if "part of your heart is just missing," and she has undergone therapy for years to cope with the loss.
